Participants in the Second Meeting of the Water Research Community organized by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation in cooperation with King Abdulaziz today concluded their discussion sessions in the future of water desalination and treatment, clean and renewable energy, sea mining, the development of membrane desalination materials and advanced materials, in addition to the environmental sustainability of desalination processes. They reviewed research and innovative initiatives presented by researchers and experts from various scientific and research bodies, through more than 70 scientific proposals and 20 research proposals submitted for discussion and scientific exchange.

Vice-President of King Abdulaziz University Prof. Amin Yousef Noaman welcomed the participants and asserted that the meeting is intended to confirm the continuous support for cooperation in the area of water research between the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, represented by its research arm the Water Technologies Innovation Institute and Research Advancements, and King Abdulaziz University, represented by the Center of Excellence in Water Desalination Technology.

Deputy Governor for Research and Execution of Innovative Projects, Eng. Tariq Alghaffari said that this meeting is considered as an important forum for sharing knowledge and expertise and promoting cooperation between researchers and academic and industrial institutions in the water industry.

He pointed out that SWCC shares its more than fifty-year experience with universities and research centers to promote scientific and technological progress in water desalination industry and direct efforts towards achieving water security in KSA and worldwide.

Meetings of this edition witnessed scientific discussions on the study of linking renewable energy technologies with various desalination processes, the study of green hydrogen production technologies, the realization of the concept of circular economy in desalination processes, sea mining, the development of membrane desalination materials and advanced materials for environmental sustainability of desalination processes.

Experts from the most prominent Saudi research centers and universities discussed, in joint and separate sessions, the future research trends of the desalination industry, the roadmap of its technologies and sustainability solutions, and methods to improve the reliability and efficiency of energy technologies.

At the end of the Meeting sessions, organizers honored the best participating "posters" presented during the Community events. The researchers Omar Beg, Omar Mohammed Talab and Noor Rahman Sawari won prizes for the best innovative projects.

The Water Research Community, whose first edition was held in Al-Khobar and third edition will be hosted by Tabuk University, serves as a focal point between SWCC and the most prominent Saudi research centers and universities for exchanging knowledge and research in order to develop and establish sustainability of water sector, unit the innovation efforts in the desalination industry and support the national economy.
