His Excellency, Engineer Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, SWCC Governor, and His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Shaya, President of Al-Jouf University, signed an MOU, aimed at strengthening and facilitating avenues of sharing experiences and subject-matter expertise between the two parties. The said MOU also contributes to expanding areas of close cooperation in such a manner that further enhances developing, conducting and following up a whole host of research and training projects of great importance to the water desalination industry. Of good note, the said MOU, among several others, represents leading role played by SWCC to build productive strategic partnerships with the Saudi universities, as well as strengthening avenues of close cooperation in using renewable energy for water desalination purposes, while establishing joint applied research projects to better optimize human and material resources and academia on both sides. The said MOU also provides for cooperation in organizing scientific seminars and conferences, conducting expert-level visits for researchers and students. This also includes providing field cooperative training for university students, sharing information, materials and scientific publications and conducting joint training and rehabilitation programs. Equally important, it also provides a favorable opportunity conducive for coordination between the two parties to better participate in relevant events, such as career days, job fairs, open employment, developing scientific research studies and reports, setting research requirements and selecting researchers’ topics, in addition to jointly publishing research results, intellectual property and recommendations. Of great note, SWCC is the world leading desalinated water producer, providing the largest production volume of 5.9 million cubic meters of desalinated water per day. Equally important, SWCC – in perfect harmony with its long-standing strategic ambition to enhance water security – creatively provides innovative solutions that better contribute to building national expertise and enhancing local content, as well as supporting research innovation and development relating to the existing and potential needs of the water sector. Taken together, this in turn better enables the water industry to play an effective role in meeting the requirements of development and achieving the ambitious goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
